This book consists largely of records of meetings between President Nasser of Egypt and various world figures – Podgorny, Tito, King Faisal, King Husain – from 22 June 1967, following the Arab-Israeli war, to 27 September 1970, the day before Nasser died.
Farid intersperses the records with his own observations in an unobtrusive manner leaving statesmen to speak for themselves, thus presenting a unique insight into the attitudes and personalities of those involved in these crucial talks. A highly original and eminently readable book, it is also an indispensable reference for students of contemporary Middle Eastern history and politics.
